Origin of Dice

In the ancient ages, people of cults and religions used different objects as animals' bones or sticks to define the will of gods. These things were thrown up and spilled on the ground, making up some figure. By this figure people determined a desire of ancient gods. This ritual marked the beginning of many fortune-tellings known in our times. Tossing up dice is also considered a trace of the ancient cult.

There is no doubt that dice first appeared in the Orient. Into Europe dice were brought by Arabic merchants and travellers. At the beginning of the XVIII century, the game became known in North America.

Rules of Craps

In the game two dice are used. The outcome of every throw is a combination of fallen dice and a sum of the numbers from 2 to 12. The game consists of rounds. Before a first roll bets are made on win (Pass Line) or on loss (Don't Pass Line) of the player who is tossing dice. Other bets besides Come and Don't Come are also permitted. Then the first throw (called Come Out Roll) is made. After Come Out Roll the following combinations of dice are possible:

Craps (total is 2, 3, 12) - Pass Line loses, Don't Pass Line wins even money if 2 or 3 roll out and ties on 12.

Natural (total is 7 or 11) - Don't Pass Line loses, Pass Line wins even money.

Point (total is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12) - in this case the rolled total is fixed and called the point. Bets Pass Line and Don't Pass Line are played in this way: the dice are being rolled until 7 or point falls out. If 7 comes before point, Pass Line loses, but Don't Pass Line wins 1:1. If point comes before 7, then, vice versa, Pass Line wins 1:1, but Don't Pass Line loses.

Once the Pass\Don't Pass Line has been completed, the game starts again from the Come Out Roll. Bets on Pass Don't Pass Line are accepted only before the first round. However, there are similar bets called Come and Don't Come Line, which are allowed all the time except the Come Out Roll.

There are some extra bets in craps:

Pass\Come Odds Bet is extra bet on point available after Pass Line or Come bet. Bet wins if point will be rolled before 7. It pays at true odds : 4 or 10 win 2:1, 5 or 9 win 3:2, 6 or 8 pay 6:5.

Don't Pass\Come Odds Bet is extra bet on point available after Don't Pass Line or Don't Come bet. Bet wins if 7 will be rolled before the point. It pays at true odds : 4 or 10 win 1:2, 5 or 9 win 2:3, 6 or 8 pay 5:6.

Win Bet is a bet on one of 4,5,6,8,9,10. Bet wins if the particular total will be rolled before 7. Payoff depends on betting number : 4 and 10 win 9:5, 5 and 9 win 7:5, 6 and 8 win 7:6.

Lose Bet is a bet opposite to win bet : bet wins if 7 will be rolled before particular total. Payoff depends on betting number : 4 and 10 win 2:5, 5 and 9 win 4:7, 6 and 8 win 4:5.

Hardways - is a bet on 2:2, 3:3, 4:4 or 5:5. Bet wins if the double rolls before 7 and before that total is rolled in any other combination. For example, bet 5:5 loses on 7 or 4:6 (total is the same to 5:5). Bets on 2:2 and 5:5 pay 7:1; bets on 3:3 and 4:4 pay 9:1.

Big 6 and Big 8 are bets that proper total (6 or 8) will be rolled before 7. These are an even money bets.

The next bets play only for one round. If the stated combination does not come, than the bet is lost.

Field Bet is a bet of the result of next throw. You may win 2:1 if bet on 2 or 12. Bet on 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 pays even money.

Any Seven is a bet on total 7 will be rolled in the next round. It pays 4:1.

Any Craps is a bet on Craps (total is 2, 3 or 12). It pays 7:1.

Craps Two is a bet on 1:1 . It wins 30:1.

Craps Twelve is a bet on 6:6 . It wins 30:1.

Craps Three is a bet on 1:2 . It wins 15:1.
