I will try to keep this simple and objective, explaining the how to play the Blackjack, the winning way… ๐Ÿ™‚

Now for the Basic Blackjack Strategy:

Blackjack is considered a game of skill, not just luck.
The Casino‘s usual advantage can be altered and you can possibly gain an edge over it by playing with a good strategy.
It’s important to remember certain things when playing Blackjack, like:

  1. You win by getting a better hand than the dealer. Some players lose sight of this and play only to get as close to 21 as they can-this will cause you to bust more than you should.
  2. The dealer is given a lead because all players go first. If a player busts first they lose the game, even if the dealer busts later on.
  3. The dealer has to follow the rules, so even if they have a winning hand with a total of 16, the dealer has to take another card, which could make them bust.

Card values:

  1. Numbered cards – face value
  2. Face cards (Kings, Queens and Jacks) – 10
  3. Aces – 1 or 11, whatever benefits you more

Basic Strategies:

Using statistical analysis to determine the outcome of various hands can up your odds of winning.
Since the dealer has to play by the house rules he/she must always hit with a hand of 16 or less and stand with a hand of 17 or more.
One of the dealer’s cards is face-up, and the situations listed below for the dealer going bust have been figured out:

Dealer’s face-up card is:
2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Ace
35 37 40 42 42 26 24 23 23 17
Percentage chance of busting:

The dealer has higher odds of busting when his face-up card is a six or smaller, and less if the face-up card has a value of seven or higher.
Using this information, these Blackjack game strategies were created:

Soft Hand Rules (Ace counted as a one or an eleven)

Most Casinos permit an ace to be played as a 1 or 11, whatever will help the player the most.
When someone has an ace that is being used as an 11, it’s called a “soft hand”.
These hands are played differently because the player cannot draw to a soft hand and bust (the player just revalues the ace to count as 1 instead of 11).

The smartest way to play soft hands is to double down when the dealer has high odds of busting (low value face-up cards).

Hard Hand Rules (When an ace must be counted as one)

  1. A player who has a hand totaling 12 to 16 when the dealer is showing a high value card (7 to ace) should take a card. Chances are slim that the dealer will bust and the player should try to improve his hand to win the game.
  2. If the player is dealt a hand that adds up to 17 to 21 he/she should stand, the probability of busting on a hit is high.
  3. A player who is given a hand totaling 12 to 16 when the dealer is showing a low value card (2 to 6) should stand. Odds are the dealer will bust and the player will take the game.
Players Hand Strategy
Soft 19 or 20: Stand
Soft 18: Stand if the dealer is showing 2,7 or 8.Hit if the dealer is showing 9,10 or Ace.Double if the dealer is showing 3,4,5 or 6.
Soft 17: Hit if the dealer is showing 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace.Double if the dealer is showing 3,4,5 or 6.
Soft 16 or 15: Hit if the dealer is showing 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace.Double if the dealer is showing 4,5 or 6.
Soft 14 or 13: Hit if the dealer is showing 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace.Double if the dealer is showing 5 or 6

When you are dealt a card that changes your hand from a soft hand (Ace = 11) to a hard hand (Ace = 1) then change strategies to the hard hand rules shown above.

Doubling Down Strategy

When the odds of winning are high, doubling down lets you place a higher bet.
You should always bet the maximum amount when this happens.
Doubling down should only happen when the player has a better chance of winning than the dealer, or when you may earn more by doubling down than by hitting the hand.

Generally, you can only double down in Casinos after you get your first two cards and before you draw a third card, but some establishments only offer this option on certain hand values (usually 9, 10 or 11).

Hard Hand Rules for Doubling Down

Double down when:

  1. Player has hard 11 and the dealer is showing 2 through 10.
  2. Player has hard 9 and the dealer is showing 3 through 6.
  3. Player has hard 10 and the dealer is showing 2 through 9.

Soft Hand Rules for Doubling Down

Double down when:

  1. Player has (A, 4) or (A, 5) and the dealer is showing 4 through 6.
  2. Player has (A, 2) or (A, 3) and the dealer is showing 5 or 6.
  3. Player has (A, 6) or (A, 7) and the dealer is showing 3 through 6.

Splitting Pairs Strategy

Splitting pairs is not smart, regardless of their value.
Pairs of tens or fives should never be split up.
Two tens makes 20, which will probably be a winning hand, while a pair of fives total 10 and you have a better chance of drawing a 10 than any other value for a win.
Aces and eights should always be split up.
Chances are higher that you will draw a card worth 10 than any other, giving you either 21 (for Aces) or 18 (for eights).

All other splits are chosen based on the dealer’s face-up card.
You should split when the dealer is showing a low value face-up card, such as when:

  1. Player has a pair of 6’s and the dealer is showing 2 through 6.
  2. Player has a pair of 2’s, 3’s or 7,s and the dealer is showing 2 through 7.
  3. Player has a pair of 4’s and the dealer is showing 5 or 6.
  4. Player has a pair of 9’s and the dealer is showing 2 through 6, 8 or 9. – If the dealer shows a 7 and you predict he/she has a hole card worth 10 then your 18 will beat it so you don’t split.

Insurance:

The odds will never be in your favor when you buy insurance. It is not a good bet.

Blackjack Rules – How to play

In Blackjack, a winning hand consists of cards reaching as close to 21 as possible without going over, along with beating the dealer’s total.

Card values

  1. Numbered cards – face value
  2. Face cards (Kings, Queens and Jacks) – 10
  3. Aces – 1 or 11, whatever benefits you more

Playing the game

The first thing you must do is place your bet.
The dealer will then deal two cards to you and one to himself.
The dealer deals himself a second card facedown.
Then, you must decide if you will get a hit, take another card, or pass.

If you choose to hit, the dealer gives you another card and asks whether you want to hit or stand.

Your odds are good if you hit on a total of 12 to 16 when the dealer’s face up card is more than seven.
It’s wise to stand if your cards total 17 or higher.
You lose if your cards exceed 21 points. In a tie, there is no winner or loser.

You win if the dealer busts and your total is less than or equal to 21.
The higher hand will win if neither you nor the dealer is over 21.
If you better the dealer, you win even money.

Methods of playing Blackjack

Splitting pairs

You’re allowed to split your first two cards when they are of the same value, like a pair of sevens.
To use this method, you have to make another bet equal to your original bet.
Then, you’re allowed to play the pairs as separate hands.
You are only allowed one more card on each hand when you split aces, and getting 21 is not considered Blackjack.

Doubling down

When you double your original bet, that means you’re doubling down.
This can happen after you get your first two cards.
If you decide to double down, you’ll only receive one more card and the dealer will draw the cards he needs to finish his hand.

Blackjack

You have a Blackjack when the first two cards dealt to you or the dealer are an ace and a card worth 10.
Payoffs for Blackjack are three to two.

Insurance

In certain gambling establishments, you’ll be given the option of insurance when the dealer’s face-up card is an ace.
This will cost half your original bet.
Your insurance bet pays two to one if the dealer gets Blackjack, making up for what you lost on the original bet.

Well I know this is a lot to digest about playing Blackjack, so what I advise is to take it slow and understand the mechanics of the blackjack game, and after go deeper into the strategies…
